The Iconic Puzzle Game Couldn't Triumph at The Game Awards — A New Category Might Solve This

Whenever a prominent prize-giving event approaches, you'll find a clamor to include of new categories to honor overlooked contributions and fill the passions of followers with niche passions.

Another commentator made the case supporting a scary games classification. That would rule. Equally deserving are tabletop games, representing someone's personal cause. But they will have to forgive me for pushing forward because like all dedicated enthusiasts, there's a strong justification supporting my request is the most urgent and significant. This is the request: We need a category for puzzle games.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Organizing artistic expressions defies precise measurement; it’s very subjective, and inevitably generate discussions concluding with vague boundaries. There’s a reason movie academies avoid this approach. But it is an unavoidable compromise for the industry of interactive entertainment, that demonstrate such variety it's challenging to consider them as a single art form.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of achievement in video games to gain proper attention, while allowing diverse titles to have a chance for representation, classification by type becomes crucial.

Current Gaming Award Categories

Prominent interactive entertainment events presently include genre categories for Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Fighting, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Collectively, these six categories actually cover many game types, allowing placement accommodating various experiences.

This doesn't apply to puzzle games. There’s simply nowhere for their placement. Consider three of outstanding current releases, each quite distinct: the architectural riddles from a specific release, the pulse-pounding block-matching in a different title, thought-provoking social scenarios in another game. Which classification works among existing types? Nowhere, that’s where.

Acknowledgment Issues

Numerous examples exist outstanding logic titles launched regularly that have no home during gaming ceremonies, unless they happen to qualify award groups including Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, or the intensely contested small studio competitions.

  • A renowned logic title wasn’t nominated in any category during that awards season
  • Another imaginative release received no nominations that year
  • Well-received sorting experience was overlooked in 2021
  • Just some brain-teasers managed to sneak into independent or mobile categories

Importance of Logic Titles

These are often small games, yet the craft behind logic titles holds tremendous importance. Iconic mobile puzzle games count as most popular titles worldwide and have been for over a decade.

The iconic tile-matching title challenges popular creative games competing to become best-selling game of all time; it also contends as greatest title ever. Logic titles represent cornerstones within interactive entertainment, while interacting with diverse game types.

The Solution and Justification

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter this problem. You could fill multiple candidates interesting, varied, worthy titles annually without trouble — or rather, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave many worthy titles.

Restating the point, these include experiences lacking appropriate categories during prominent ceremonies. Logic title developers function at the demanding boundary of video game design, developing some of essential manifestations of gaming itself. Similar to cinema stunt performers, they warrant appreciation. Let’s not keep them waiting decades.
