Donald Trump's Regime of Punishment and Favor

The ex-president's voracious desire for retribution has quickly transformed into a organized system. Over the twelve months, the president's fury and caprices have adopted the form of government actions in a manner analogous to earlier dictatorial systems. Government figures who fail to comply are promptly fired and replaced by supporters. Political leaders who question him risk legal action, trial and penalties. Adversaries have been categorized under presidential orders as “hostile to national interests”, “against faith communities” and “anti-capitalist”, and threatened with prosecution as “security threats”.

The Justice System Remade

Every instance involving legal action of political opponents and immunity for his allies displays its own particular qualities. However, regardless of their specific nature, they represent expressions of what has emerged as a deliberate method. These events are anything but random. Trump's purge of federal lawyers and law enforcement officials, alongside his appointment of devotees in high-level positions, started quickly, promptly took on a pattern, and has now been shaped into a structure. DoJ and the law enforcement agency have been transformed into ideological organizations under his clear direction to implement his demands. Unfairness has been turned into normal. This is the system of punishment.

Management is preoccupied with targeting the chief's perceived enemies than they are with defending our national security.

Inside the Structure

The foundation of this system has been revealed in the court filing of multiple ex- senior law enforcement officials lodged in September in the judicial system in DC against agency head a senior appointee and top lawyer another official for illegal termination in “a effort of retribution against the officials for what Defendants deemed to be a failure to demonstrate proper political loyalty”. According to the filing that a former acting director, the former acting FBI director, recounts a discussion in which the director “publicly confessed the illegality of his behavior”.

He had attempted to shield law enforcement officers from being fired, the filing claims. The director advised him that “administration officials” – interpreted by the official to be the executive branch and federal prosecutors – had instructed him to fire all those who they determined as having worked on a law enforcement case against Trump. The complaint continues: “The director stated that he had to dismiss the personnel his bosses told him to dismiss, because his ability to retain his own position depended on the ouster of the agents who worked on investigations involving the President. The director noted that there was no way he or him could do to stop these or any other terminations, because ‘the FBI attempted to incarcerate the President in jail and he remembers.’” After he told him he was disregarding the FBI's own policies, the director allegedly said “he understood that and he was aware the character of the summary firings were probably unlawful”.

Broad Impact

After the director's claimed admission to the official, the DoJ and the FBI have been gutted and redirected for the administration's retribution system. Multiple of the agency's top officials were terminated or pushed out in the initial period of the presidency. Approximately thousands of lawyers at DoJ have agreed to a “voluntary departure plan”. At least seven government attorneys, among them those in the southern district of New York, resigned in dissent over what they viewed as ideological pressure in abandoning the criminal prosecution against the local official, Eric Adams, in as a trade for his collaboration with his Immigration and Customs Enforcement roundups of migrants. The public integrity section of DoJ, which oversees misconduct investigations, has been reduced to two attorneys. The rights protection unit has been severely reduced: seventy percent of its staff has resigned. 33% of top officials at the justice department have left. The unit implementing ecological regulations has experienced the exit of a majority its supervisors.

Incentives and Sanctions

Concerning the legal matter, the acting US attorney for the federal division, the official, quit in dissent against what she characterized as the “quid pro quo”. Tom Homan, Trump's “immigration leader,” appeared as the implementer with the mayor on a media outlet to state: “If he doesn't come through, I'll reappear in NYC.”. Meanwhile, Emil Bove, earlier the senior DoJ official and a former Trump attorney, who arranged the deal, was granted an appellate federal judgeship, a potential stepping stone to the judicial branch.

His exemption for crimes committed while in office, granted by the remarkable judgment of the GOP-led on the supreme court, thus preventing his prosecution over the January 6 insurrection and preserving his political viability for the presidential race, is the cornerstone on which he depends to protect his supporters. Given this protection, he has been empowered to authorize corruption. The impact of the court judgment infuses his presidency and the Republican Party completely. The court matter has escalated. As a past leader's White House counsel the figure commented about the Watergate
