A comeback Daniil Medvedev secured his initial title for nearly 30 months with victory over opponent Moutet in the tournament championship match.

Medvedev, a ex- top-ranked player, has endured a torrid season, achieving just one match at the major tournaments and experiencing a setback at the New York tournament.

The player's unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his serve in specific - caused him exiting of the world's top 10 and eventually splitting with former mentor Cervara.

Now training with Johansson and Goetzke, the tennis star has consistently progressed in the recent weeks - climaxing in a tightly fought competitive win over challenger Moutet.

It is his initial title following the Rome competition and initial on a hard surface since spring of that year.

The win also indicates the Russian has achieved twenty-one championships at 21 various tournaments.

"It's the first time I am participating in a event with my children at once, so to win a trophy is particularly special," stated world number 14 Medvedev.

"This victory is in dedication of my child her name, because the maiden victory I got when my older daughter Alisa was delivered was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had failed in his last six title deciders, comprising in Halle in the past months.

His counter-punching approach and frequent outbursts on the playing surface had prompted observers to wonder if his capacity to play at the highest level was finished.

However the player has implemented adjustments in the past month, making an effort to come to the net and compete assertively, backed up by an better serve.

The champion recovered from a deficit in the opening set against the difficult opponent, taking 4 of the concluding five points to go ahead.

The pair swapped service breaks in the middle set before Moutet, bidding for his first professional championship, gained dominance to force a final set.

Moutet rescued 4 early-game opportunities in a close third set before the champion broke to that score to secure the win.

Fittingly, Medvedev clinched the win with a rally at the front of the court, with his opponent incapable to manage a volley after over two and a half hours.
